Elisabeth Louise Vigee Le Brun was an artist known for her portraits. Her gregarious nature led to relaxed subjects and resulted more flattering expressions. Her painting style was quite different for the time and is notably warm and animated much like her personality. In addition to painting portraits of French aristocracy she often did self portraits. In doing this portrait of a the artist I aimed to keep close to the style she was known for and make it contemporary with vibrant color, since she was clearly a woman with an incredible personality and taste for living.
