Creating a custom pattern for surface design was an intriguing prospect and a fun experience. I first sketched by hand the elements I wanted to included in the final design and once there was a clear direction for the illustrative elements I traced it out on tracing paper to determine how the repeat would work. Scanning in and vectorizing the illustrations, followed by digital coloring I achieved the design envisioned. I then included another skewed layer of the line drawing to provide depth and interest and created the pattern. After some adjustments and revisions the swatch was submitted and  custom fabric ordered which I then sewed into a quirky little throw pillow.
