Illustration add value and richness anywhere but it can take a hand lettering project to another level while keeping an interesting handcrafted feel. When I do hand lettering I start by brainstorming on the message I am trying to convey and then experiment with different lettering styles along with illustrations. Once I have the general idea of the goal I sketch it out and revise as I go along. I will then trace over this initial sketch again and make adjustments and do some cleaning up. Finally I will trace again with ink and scan to work digitally where I can do any further cleaning up. Depending on what the piece will be used for I may transform it to vector and then complete with color.
